Who We Are
Cockahoop Theatre is playwright and actor Stephanie Jacob and director, dramaturg and facilitator Lucy Richardson. After many years of collaboration and friendship we established Cockahoop to hold the work we make, together and individually.
We collaborate with many artists. These people have hugely enriched our work:
Clarissa Widya, Jo Rogers, Lieve Carchon , Alistair Craig, Grace Willis, Hugh Hayes, Eddy Queens, Jelmer Tuinstra, Jamie Russell-Curtis, Lex Kosanke, Chloe Kenward, Ali McDowall, Elizabeth Downie, Claire Hodgson, Jo Wake, Hannah Morley, Tian Sampson-Brown, Roxana Bartle.
Steph says:
“Lucy has a wonderful range of skills and a philosophy which infuses everything she does and carries me with it. She's an outstanding dramaturg, attentive both to what's on the page and what might be missing. She always tries to enable me to write my story, not hers. Similarly in workshops and rehearsals she works with what's in front of her, which makes people feel safe, included, open, the best state for making things together. She makes me think harder and be braver, as a writer and an actor. Her productions are bold, generous, honest and full of feeling. Just like her.”
Lucy says:
“Steph is awesome. She thinks deeply about the world and those that live in it. She knows how to sniff out a good story and her curiosity takes her inside the heads and hearts of people who are often ignored. As a writer and an actress she is precise, passionate, poetic and powerful. She approaches all her work with courage, love and a searing intelligence. But above all she, like all her characters, is quick-witted, kind and very, very funny. Directing her plays always takes me on an emotional learning journey and working with her always moves me to thought and to laughter.”
