Boudica by Stephanie Jacob is a poem series written in the voice of the ancient warrior queen. AD61 and Romans are in charge of Britain. When the widowed Boudica is flogged and her two daughters raped, she decides to respond. But who was she?
In these poems Boudica flits through history's gaps to enter as sadistic avenger, guilty mother, beady cultural commentator, strategist, magician, ghost who longs to live again....
Directed by Lucy Richardson, and working with actor/cellist Roxana Bartle, Stephanie performed Boudica at Clapham's Omnibus Theatre, as part of their Engine Room series.
The full collection is published by Green Bottle Press under the title Three-Eyed Wolf.
Listen below to some of the poems, recorded and mixed by Julian Wilkinson.
